See above link to go directly to the Sunny cars reservation site for cars (just make sure to select the minivan category as only vehicle type large enough for 2 people to sleep comfortably (SUV’s don’t work).

Advantages and limitations of universal fitting conversion kit solution

Advantages: You drive a (fairly) new, high quality, safe, comfortable and reliable car with all kilometers included that you rent yourself with Sunny cars or at one of the local rental car companies (Thrifty, Avis, Hertz, etc). The car looks like any other car.
Definitely the lowest cost rental solution: the car rental cost may vary depending on the dates of rental but when comparing all costs, this is great solution for a comfortable camping adventure for 2 people (only).
The minivans are very fuel efficient compared to most other campervans (saving hundreds of dollars on gas on the average vacation trip).
Our converted beds are super comfy and it is fabulous to wake up, make a breakfast and instantly be able to drive without any work/ preparation.
One of the biggest advantages with a minivan is that you are able to drive on all roads, where a large rental RV/camper is not allowed, and this provides you with the opportunity to get off the beaten track, to the nicest places to camp.
Last but not least: you save money for other adventures like whale watching, rafting, ziplining, horseback riding, the best restaurants etcetera).
Limitations:
The maximum capacity is 2 people.
The height of the car is not sufficient to make a seating area to sit comfortably in the back. So you can only sit outside with the chairs & table supplied – or- in the front seats of the car.
No toilet in car: You need to use the camping washrooms as there is no room in the car for any such facilities.
Cooking: The package contains all the necessary equipment for your meal preparation. Cooking in/or at the back of the car is not recommended because of the odor that lingers after cooking (when camping in bear country), so always use the camping table, away from the car.

Other important information

The Minivan Upgrade Kit includes all the equipment you need for comfortable camping. You only need to bring your personal items (clothing, etc) and we take care of the rest. You may decide to bring your own sleeping bag, but you can also add this to your package with pillows and fleece blankets.

The package consist of the following:

1. A bed frame with sufficient storage space below it for the camping equipment provided. The bed frame width will depend on the model minivan you rented, but mostly approx 120 cm width (2 meter length), which is really comfortable for 2. Note: You do not have to confirm the minivan model in advance–our systems are adjustable and can therefore fit to the available space in the minivan.
2. On top of the bed frame, there will be a thick, comfortable camping mattress and 2 new pillows (simple, IKEA) are provided.
3. A complete curtain set for your privacy whenever and wherever you want it. We provide a complete curtains system with fastening systems and a mosquito net system to keep mosquito’s out at night. Our mounting systems will not damage the rental vehicle. Prior to your departure, we show you how to install all curtains.
4. A number of crates that are logically classified with the camping equipment:
Crate 1: basic equipment: lantern / flashlight, propane camping gas bottles ( 1 or 2 depending on duration of booking), dish wash basin, dish detergent, dust pan & broom, cloths pegs, rope, camping hatchet (for campfire preparation).
Crate 2: all cooking equipment including pots, pans, spatula, cutting board, drinking cups, plates, cutlery, can opener, corkscrew
Crate 3: Small camping equipment and supplies like salt, pepper, dishwashing brush, dishcloths, matches, garbage bags and if you wish, you will receive a limited number of empty crates that you can divide yourself with / for food and / or your personal items.
5. All other camping supplies for a comfortable camping holiday, including: double pot camping gas stove, folding chairs, a folding table for 2 (and for cooking when you are on route), large cooler, large 20 L water container, and a tarp (tarpaulin) to make shelter in case of rain.
In addition, we have many additional options that you can select when making your reservation, like sleeping bags, fleece blankets, thicker pillows, a hammock, etc.

Why we don’t rent cars ourselves:
Canada has a short camping rental season. Campervan rental companies can only rent out the cars 1/3 of the year so most of the year the campervans are not used. Car rental companies however do rent year round and can be way more price competitive. Therefore, our flexible rental concept saves you money. We want you to book the car directly because if we book it for you, we have to add the 12% Value Added Tax (standard tax in British Columbia, so by booking the rental car yourself you save 12% on the rental car pricing).
Information about your suitcases:
It’s best not to bring “hard case” suitcases because they are not very practical when camping in a campervan.
The rear seats of the van:
The rear seats can be folded away or taken out and we can store the seats safely for you until you return from your camping adventure to put them back neatly in the car prior to you returning the vehicle to the rental agency.
With regard to the “upgrade time” into basic campervan:
We understand that your holiday time is important to you, and you probably want to get on the road as quickly as possible. The “upgrade” takes approx. 30-45 min. It is important for us to schedule your time of pick up before the start of your holiday so we can be time efficient, and if you did not state the time at booking, we will contact you a few days in advance to schedule a time.
